THE TEAM
Richard MacGregor – Team Principal Having had his interest kindled many years ago by Stirling Moss’s first win in a Vanwall, Richard has followed motor sport ever since. Working as a Designer and Project Manager in the Sports Industry, he has had wide experience of initiating and developing projects for a wide range of applications. Still an enthusiastic motorcyclist, as well as a driver, he is always interested in anything with an engine and is a keen participant in track days. Over the years he has owned a wide variety of cars and motorcycles and currently enjoys the superb roads around the Team’s base in North Yorkshire on a Triumph Street Triple.
Jonny MacGregor – Technical Director and Lead Driver Jonny is an Engineering Team Leader at GE. He has been involved in competitive motor sport for 14 years, starting in karts, and is now developing a reputation in cars. A keen driver and motorcyclist, he has always been very active in sports, having competed at a high level in swimming, rugby and athletics. He attended Loughborough University, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering, specialising in car suspension systems, ride and handling. Jonathan still trains with the University’s Elite 400 Metres Athletics Squad. Jonathan’s technical expertise and years of track driving experience are a great asset in helping to develop the Team’s cars and drivers. Throughout 2010 he has developed his Lotus Exige for track use and competed with it in the Time Attack series, and raced the Team’s Westfield Aerorace with notable success. He proved extremely competitive in his first year in GT racing in 2011, consistently out performing seasoned GT drivers in his debut year.
Dr Charlotte Edwardson - Nutrition and Fitness Consultant Dr Charlotte Edwardson is a specialist in physical activity, health and nutrition. She has a BSc in Applied Sports Science and an MSc and PhD in Physical Activity & Health, all from Loughborough University. Recognising the importance of physical and mental preparation for participation in sport, Charlotte ensures that each team member is aware of the fitness and nutrition requirements to ensure they are able to perform to their maximum. Charlotte has followed motor sport enthusiastically for some years and is particularly interested in Moto GP and Formula One. She is also a keen participant in sport and has a black belt in kickboxing.
Alicja Sanderson – Hospitality Manager Alicja, known to everyone as Ala, has an Honours Degree in Engineering and is a qualified Cordon Blue cook. With many years experience in the catering and hospitality industry, we are delighted that she provides the Team with the all important refreshments during the track events attended by the drivers and support crew. Ala has embraced motor sport and is an enthusiastic owner of a cherished TVR Cerbera. She is a keen supporter of the Team and is always ready to provide meals and snacks at any time they are required. She caters for the varied discerning (and sometimes not so discerning!) tastes of our Team and our guests.
Marvin Epton - Race Engineer Marvin was first involved with MacG Racing in 2006 when the team raced the Rotax Kart. More recently he has been involved in the build and development of the Ultima GTR for the Britcar British Endurance Championship. His interest in motorsport started at a young age having spent numerous hours at Snetterton race track watching events such as the British Touring Cars and British Superbikes. His love for motorsport led him to study Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, where he obtained a Masters Degree. Whilst at University, he specialised in aerodynamics and chassis design. Marvin currently works as a Project Engineer for Lotus Cars. In his spare time, Marvin plays waterpolo, football and cricket. He also enjoys rock climbing and mountain biking.
Tom Fletcher - Race Engineer Tom’s love of motorsport has grown from a young age when he was upgrading and racing Scalextric cars, through a Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University, to being part of the Brawn GP team that won the Formula One World Championship. At work, Tom specialises in simulation and control engineering, but at weekends can normally be found getting his hands dirty under his VW Golf. A keen driver himself, and a good eye for data analysis mean that Tom fits well into the role of Driver Liaison. Tom’s main duty on race weekends is to ensure that the team knows exactly what setup the driver needs to get the best of the car. In addition to this, he provides feedback from the logged data in order to improve both the car and the drivers performance.
Mike Law - Race Engineer Despite a casual interest in motorsport from an early age, Mike only targeted an automotive career at the age of 16, without any real world experience or knowledge. He started at Loughborough University in 2006 studying Automotive Engineering and became a member of the University’s Formula Student team, specialising in design. Mike eventually worked his way up to head of design in 2008 and managed design of one of the most competitive cars the team has produced. The Forumla Student experience helped Mike to gain a work placement position in the vehicle dynamics department of Williams F1 which provided the opportunity to work with world class motorsport engineers. He has since returned to Williams after graduating first in his class in 2011 and he is currently working on vehicle simulation with a plan in place to transfer across to the race team in the future. After first speaking with MacG Racing in early 2011, he was able to join the team in May 2012.
Aaron Mason - Race Engineer and Team Photographer Aaron has been interested in Motorsport since he first drove his father's Mini Stock Car around the pits aged just 6! With his father also being a truck mechanic for a living, Aaron was never far from something mechanical. This influence lead him to pursue a career in engineering, graduating with a Automotive Eng Degree from Loughborough
and eventually getting a job with Jaguar Land Rover in Product Development.
David Steele - Race Analyst David joined the Team in 2012 and has rapidly helped to develop the organisation of the Team’s supplies. He works as a Race Analyst during race weekends, monitoring and analysing the progress of the Team’s car in the events and developing race strategy. David has had a keen interest in motorsport from an early age and has spent many weekends watching motorsports at a number of tracks around the United Kingdom. He has also enjoyed taking part in track days and navigational rallies. Away from MacG Racing, David works for a mobile telecom company as a retail technical specialist.
Josh Tomlinson - Race Engineer Josh joined the team back in 2010 during the Time Attack and Westfield series as a race engineer. His highlights so far being the successful installation of the LS7 engine and transmission into the Teams’ Ultima GTR build during the wintery depths of 2011, and crewing for the team later in the year at the prestigious Britcar 24hr race in October. He has also participated in a number of the team’s test days, including testing of the Westfield Aerorace at Rockingham following its purchase. His practical knowledge and hands on approach towards any issues helps to ensure the cars are mechanically ready for racing. Including the management of all of the cars fluids and fuel during race meetings. Outside of the team he competes in the Daytona Vodafone DMax Enduro Karting Championship (MacG Racing permitting of course!), showing signs of a competitive edge in his first season of racing. He has always been a keen follower of motor sport such as Formula 1 and Moto GP supporting the likes of McLaren & Ducati. He is a keen sportsman and Arsenal fan, participating in numerous sports including hockey, rugby league, shooting and sailing. Josh also attended Loughborough University where he studied Chemistry with Industrial Studies, and currently works in research and development within the Document & Identity Solutions industry. |
